Top-rated restaurants in Barcelona

The Michelin Red Guide or, simply the Michelin Guide, is the name of a series of tourist guides published each year by the French publisher Michelin Éditions du Voyage. This guide, created in 1900, assigns one to three stars to restaurants throughout Europe regarding its quality, creativity and dedication of its dishes; from one to five fork&spoons depending on the comfort level and the service the guests receive; and one to five “houses” for hotels using the same criteria.

Appearing in the Michelin Guide will immediately give to the restaurant or to the hotel a great prestige and recognition as the stars, sfork&spoons and “houses” are assigned considering rigorous parameters by the collegiate inspectors. The circulation of the guide, both among the general public and among food critics and restaurateurs, is very wide and its annual publication is always cause for controversy. The assignating stars criteria is considered subjective, but probably honest. In Barcelona you can find a lot of restaurants that have a Michelin star. I will quote some below: 2 star restaurant: the Moments restaurant by Carme Ruscalleda , one of the cooks with more professional awards and international projection of our country. In this local you can enjoy his reinterpretation of traditional Catalan cuisine on a comfortable environment with sea views. Hotel – Restaurant Ábac: is a new addition to this year’s Michelin Guide. The restaurant’s chef Jordi Cruz, innovates within a concept of traditional cuisine. Inside, you will find luxurious and all comfort rooms, and other spaces dedicated to relaxation or business meetings. Can Fabes (Sant Celoni): This restaurant belongs to the family Santamaría, led by the great chef Santi Santamaria, who died recently. This year Can Fabes has lost a Michelin star due to the Santi decease, but it’s still in a privileged position.1 starAlkimia: http://alkimia.cat: in this distinguished and elegant restaurant you will enjoy original and creative dishes with local produce such as artichokes with  Jabugo ham and “carquiñoles” vinaigrette.

Jordi Artal, the young chef, invites us to enjoy a dining experience through the five senses with dishes like “sea and mountain” with crispy pork jowl, saffron aioli and grilled squid.Hofmann: this is the Hofmann school-restaurant, which follows a very specific philosophy in the kitchen: the fusion of styles and techniques, and the mixture of the traditional and the avant-garde. This school restaurant is known for its delicious desserts. Moo (Hotel Omm): is the restaurant located inside the Hotel Omm and whose gastronomic line is run by the Roca brothers (Joan, Josep and Jordi), responsible for Celler de Can Roca, in Girona, a  restaurant with three Michelin stars. Their cuisine combines a cool environment with exceptional wines.Neichel: Jean-Louis Neichel opened his restaurant in 1981 in the exclusive area of Pedralbes and since then he has keep impressing his guests with a sublime Mediterranean cuisine. There are many more restaurants in Barcelona with a Michelin star that offer excellent food at a relatively affordable prices.
