The Michelin Red Guide or, simply the Michelin Guide, is the name of a series of tourist guides published each year by the French publisher Michelin Éditions du Voyage. This guide, created in 1900, assigns one to three stars to restaurants throughout Europe regarding its quality, creativity and dedication of its dishes; from one to five fork&spoons depending on the comfort level and the service the guests receive; and one to five “houses” for hotels using the same criteria.

Appearing in the Michelin Guide will immediately give to the restaurant or to the hotel a great prestige and recognition as the stars, sfork&spoons and “houses” are assigned considering rigorous parameters by the collegiate inspectors. The circulation of the guide, both among the general public and among food critics and restaurateurs, is very wide and its annual publication is always cause for controversy. The assignating stars criteria is considered subjective, but probably honest. In Barcelona you can find a lot of restaurants that have a Michelin star.
