About Abissinia

One of Barcelona’s only Ethiopian restaurants, Abissinia Restaurant is perfectly placed in Gracia and worth stopping by for the food lovers wanting to try something a bit different. At Abissinia, there are no formal tables, standard linens, or silver utensils, but rather traditional Ethiopian ottoman-style stools with food served on top of hourglass-shaped straw tables and picked up by hand.

Both their meat and vegetarian dishes carry a flavorful kick with each bite. Their recipes date back 2000 years and use exotic spices and traditional Ethiopian bread. Diners tear off the bread and dip it into the flavors to soak in the meat and veggies before eating. It might get a bit messy, but it’s well worth it for the taste. The restaurant is open from 8:30 PM – 11:30 PM  on Mondays and Wednesdays to Saturdays.

The Food

At Abissinia, you can try a variety of  Ethiopia’s delicious meals such as wat, a curry with chicken, lamb, or beef alongside vegetables and Injera bread. Shahan ful is fava beans mixed with chopped onions, peppers, and tomatoes, olive oil, feta cheese, and yogurt. Shiro, ga’at, and fir-fir are other common Ethiopian dishes to consider when choosing what you’ll have. The staff is friendly and the decor will take you out of Spain momentarily. The restaurant is even perfect for vegetarians. The prices may be a bit on the higher side, but they offer a ton of bang for your buck regardless.

  • You have got to be kidding me. Abysinnia is one of the worst Ethiopian restaurants I'v e been to. Overpriced, tiny portions and the rudest customer service I have encountered in Barcelona!
