Travel Around Spain from Barcelona by Train

The Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles or  RENFE is the Spanish rail system that runs all over the country. It’s easy to buy single or roundtrip train tickets on their website, but they also offer packages specifically for travelers. People with permanent residence outside of Spain can choose from train passes for 4, 6, 8, 0r 10 train journeys anywhere in Spain within one month. On the website, they even suggest ideas for routes and cities of interest to make the most out of your train pass. This can be an economical option for those planning on traveling between many cities in Spain and can customize their train pass to fit their needs.

Rail Europe also offers the Eurail Spain Pass for traveling within the country. With this option, you can choose from either 3, 4, 5, or 8 days to travel within a one month period. You can choose to use your travel days consecutively or not and take as many trips as you want in one day. You can also choose from first or second class travel passes to suit your budget best. They offer a discount for travelers under 27 years old, groups of 2-5 people, and up to two children between the ages of 4-11 ride free with each adult passenger. It should be noted, however, that the Eurail pass is printed as a paper document and must be sent to buyers prior to departure, so be sure to get it well in advance.

GoEuro is a great website for comparing transportation prices. You simply enter your destination and dates in the search boxes, and you’ll see a direct price comparison of train tickets, flights, and even driving costs according to the average price of gasoline at the time.
