La Banyera de la Russa, meaning “the Russian woman’s bathtub”, is a paradise amongst cliffs located below the Cap Roig castle and containing three different sea caves. Despite its somewhat difficult access, nothing can make you forget about all the ugliness in the world like the beauty and nature of this place. Cap Roig is about 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Barcelona by car. Cova de s’Infern, located at Cap del Creus, is around 2 hours from Barcelona. It may be nicknamed “the cave of hell”, but that’s only due to the red color of its waters at sunrise. In fact, taking a dip in its nature-made swimming pool is more likely to make you feel like you’re in the Garden of Eden. At Cova d’en Gispert, you can kayak from Aiguablava, Aigua Xelida or Tamariu and have the adventure of a lifetime. This is a large sea cave inside which the outside world seems to disappear, where light and sound follow different rules – all you need to do is let your senses be taken over by this gift of nature and enjoy a unique experience. At around 1.5 hours from Barcelona, it’s definitely worth the trip.

There are plenty of companies that organize tours of the Costa Brava sea caves or rent boats and kayaks for private expeditions. While some are local to the area, some are based in Barcelona and include the traveling in its packages. Here’s some other options you may want to consider: Kayaking Costa Brava organizes several different tours in the area and provides a kayak rental service as well. It’s located at Carrer Enric Serra, 42, in the town of L’Escala. Excursions Barcelona offers a kayaking and snorkeling tour that includes transportation from Barcelona and is priced at 70€ per person. The meeting point is at the monument in Plaza de Antonio Lopez in the Gothic Quarter.
