VIDEO: discover the district of Montjuïc

Barcelona is a coastal town that makes us feel good. In addition to being animated and offering a multitude of activities, it also offers an exceptional setting. It is a city between land and sea: it is surrounded by hills more or less forested.

One of the most famous hills of the city is without doubt Montjuïc which rises nearly 173 meters above the sea. Today, the term ‘Montjuïc’ represents a district of Barcelona. In addition to its impressive monuments, the district includes many gardens and places where it’s pleasant to walk.

Plaça Espanya is the most important place of Montjuïc, it’s an emblematic in Barcelona. This place is close to Las Arenas, Barcelona’s shopping centre built into the old arenas. You’ll find numerous signs of clothes as well as restaurants. Take the time to climb on the roof, admire the view over the National Museum of Catalan Art (MNAC). The museum is an impressive building which includes the finest collections of Catalan art of the world. If you’re going to visit the MNAC, you’ll pass the famous magic fountain of Montjuïc, which offers a beautiful show every night at 21: 00 (summer timetable).

Behind the MNAC you’ll find the Museum of archaeology of Catalonia and the Theatre Lliure of Montjuïc. Not far away from there is the Greek Theatre, an open theatre which hosts every year the Greek Festival and offers an exceptional setting with gardens. You can also see the Joan Miró Foundation, devoted to the works of the famous artist. Feel free to stroll through the many charming gardens of Montjuïc. Many of them include benches where you can sit in the shade of a tree to admire the view and enjoy the noise soothing fountains that are there.

Among its sports complexes, you will find Palau Sant Jordi, the Olympic pool of Montjuïc  and the stadium Lluís Companys,  which has been converted and hosts events and athletes (such as the Championships of Athletics of 2010 for the stadium) as well as concerts and musical events (like AC/DC, Maroon 5 or Rihanna).

To complete your visit, you may also want go to the castle of Montjuïc. This place is full of history and offers a beautiful overview of the city. Go down and take time to admire a beautiful view from the Mirador of Montjuïc.
