Foradada waterfall in Catalonia

Barcelona is a rich, vibrant, cultured and eclectic city. There is plenty here to discover. But it isn’t necessarily the ideal place for relaxing, particularly during the summer when swathes of tourists fill the streets, beaches and parks. Fortunately, Barcelona’s situation in Catalonia, a land rich in natural beauty and charm, makes it easy for a trip out of town to find nature and relaxation. There is a lot to discover. One particularly beautiful and somewhat secret gem of natural beauty and tranquillity is the Foradada waterfall in Cantonigros.

It’s not the easiest place to get to, hence the element of secrecy it maintains. But it is certainly worth the effort to see it. The images probably prove this more than words can do. The Fordada is a small waterfall that cascades down into a rocky grotto. The sunlight that beams in through a hole in the rocks at certain times of day makes for a spellbinding sight.

This is a dreamy haven of tranquillity, making it a perfect way to disconnect from the Barcelona crowds. The fact it isn’t so simple to find makes it all the more of an adventure. And who doesn’t like an adventure?!

How to get to waterfall?

By far the most straightforward way to get there is by car, going North from Barcelona and taking the C-153 until Cantonigros. This is the village after Santa Maria de Corco. Entering Cantonigros, you will see a football field on your right, and you can park the car just beside it. From here it’s really easy, just follow a yellow marked track for about 20 minutes and you will start to hear the unmistakable rushing sound of the waterfall.

If you go in spring or summer, you can enjoy a refreshing swim, although bear in mind it is a popular place to visit in the summer. For a more tranquil experience it may be best to go in the spring. It is also an impressive place to visit in the winter, particularly if the weather is cold enough to freeze the waterfall.

Foradada makes for a perfect day trip/adventure from Barcelona!
