Alfonso Alzamora: L’escala de l’enteniment. Ramon Llull, 1316-2016

Espai Volart i Volart 2, May 5 – Jul 17

Ramon Llull was a 13th-century logician and is thought to have written the first major work in Catalan literature. He is being commemorated by Llull Year, a program of nearly 300 activities to discover and explore his work.

This exhibit “The Stairway to Understanding”, is an homage to Llull. In order to explore the intersection between art, philosophy and mathematics, artist Alfonso Alzamora has created a visual project focused on the cube –  Ramon Llull’s symbol of truth.

Permit Yourself…

l’Arts Santa Mònica, Apr 24 – Jul 3

Can books be 3D pieces of art? Do books become art or arise from art? These questions are explored in this 25 piece exhibit. The title ‘Permit Yourself…’ comes from the quote: ‘Permit yourself to drift from what you are reading at this very moment into another situation… Imagine a situation that, in all likelihood, you’ve never been in’. This fluidity of form and art underpins the exhibition. Through the work of 14 artists, the exhibition will show how printed matter can reflect and have a spatial and three-dimensional quality. It will also explore how artists’ books become sculptures, paintings, photographs, installations and even performances.

Albert Ràfols Casamada – Pintura (Painting)

Can Framis Museum, April 18 – July 17

A key figure in Catalan art, Albert Ràfols Casamada uses masterly painting to explore the subconscious and reality via the brushstroke. The exhibit brings together 40 of his works alongside extracts from his personal diary to give a holistic glimpse into the work of this influential painter.
