Dog-friendly places in Sant Antoni

Labradors, golden retrievers, poodles, bulldogs and dachshunds – just name a dog breed and you’ll find one lovingly accompanying a human friend along the streets of Barcelona. But with the limited green spaces facing many of the city’s neighbourhoods, what’s a dog lover to do with his or her beloved companion when wanting to explore the city and head out for a bite to eat? Fortunately, many of the city’s eating spots are just as welcoming when it comes to our four-legged furry friends. In many of Barcelona’s neighbourhoods, you’ll find a sticker on the windows of such cafes that proclaim dogs are indeed very much welcome. Bar Calders

Bar Calders can be described as a pioneer in setting the social scene along Carrer del Parlament in Sant Antoni. One of the oldest bars on the block, Bar Calders features a comfy and cosy interior but its drawcard is the shaded terrace tucked down the side of a little alley. It’s a great place for your beloved dog to get a bit of shade under the table as well as hydrate with some water, while you enjoy a vermouth or two. Bar Calders is located at Carrer del Parlament, 25.

Cometa

Cozy and kitsch is a good way to describe the ambiance of Cometa, a little cafe serving up some of the most delicious sandwiches and salads in the heart of Sant Antoni. There’s seating both upstairs and downstairs in addition to some tables outside on the footpath. The street corner location is a great place for you and your pooch to do some people and dog watching as you wile away the afternoon. Cometa is located at Carrer del Parlament, 20.

The Juice House

The Juice House buzzes with the energy of people who live clean and healthy, with a visit for breakfast or lunch guaranteed to give you a natural boost that’ll have you set to take on the challenges of the day. The menu has great vegan options, fresh juices and some of the best acai bowls you’ll find in Barcelona. There are some tables outside on the pavement or you can feel free to carve up your kale inside, with your precious dog in tow. The Juice House can be found at Carrer del Parlament, 12.

And when you and your animal companion have had your fill of tasty treats, head to the open space of Avenida de Mistral, a mostly pedestrianized zone in Sant Antoni. You’ll score points with your furry friend by letting him sniff and scout around the trees as well as say hello to the other dogs enjoying the fresh air out on their urban adventure.
