Electric fireplaces are electronic apparatuses that generate hot air and simulate a classic burning fireplace via a screen. There are a variety of models of these electric fireplaces, from insertable models that present a great resemblance to traditional fireplaces and others that are more portable and convenient. These need to be plugged into an outlet since they are electric, and obviously do not need to be connected to a chimney since they are not actually producing fumes that need to be released from the space. On the other hand, ethanol fireplaces use a flammable liquid that produces flames but does not generate smoke that therefore requires a chimney. The appearance of flames in this fireplace can create a more real sense of warmth than an electric version, but does not have the same power as a classic fireplace connected to a chimney.
