In this new era of the revolution and recognition of female talent in male-dominated industries, the <\/span><b>Ayuntamiento de Barcelona <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has put forward a female film series as a collaboration with the feminist movement that is stronger than ever before. Today from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/shbarcelona.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>ShBarcelona<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> we want to talk about the <\/span><b>Women\u2019s Film Series <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that began this year, where you\u2019re just in time to see the last two titles that are left to screen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Related article:<\/span><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/where-you-can-find-english-movies-in-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where to watch movies in English in Barcelona <\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><b>Recognizing women through film<\/b><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_96759\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96759\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96759\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/wadjda-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-96759\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Coolhuntparis via Visualhunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ajuntament.barcelona.cat\/ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><b>Ayuntamiento de Barcelona<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> decided to project a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/media-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>film<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> series in which women are the principal protagonists. The initiative has come in a time of feminist vindication, in which women have raised their voices on various levels of society, especially those where their participation has been limited in the past. The film series began with its first showing on <\/span><b>May 18 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the thought-provoking film <\/span><b><i>Hidden Figures<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Figuras Ocultas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Spanish. The film highlights the important contributions of three intelligent and skilled African-American women, whose work at NASA was overlooked by American society in the sixties due to their gender and race.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On <\/span><b>May 31<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the series featured the film\u00a0<\/span><b><i>In<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Between<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (titled <\/span><b><i>Bar Bahar, entre dos mundos <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Spanish), <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a story of three resident Palestinian women in Tel-Aviv fighting for a normal life as young people in a culture and territory where it\u2019s difficult to find your own place. The next film chosen was <\/span><b><i>Wadjda<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La bicicleta verde <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Spanish. The first film to be written and directed by a women from Saudi Arabia, it reflects the complex world inhabited by women in the Middle East. It features a Saudi girl who doesn\u2019t give up when she is forbidden to own a bicycle as a girl, showing the ordeal that seemingly simple things can be for many girls and women in Saudi Arabia.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_96760\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96760\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96760\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/film-1365334_1280-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-96760\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo via Pixabay<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/cheap-movies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>screenings<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that remain will take place on<\/span><b> September 30<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>October 7<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The first will be the film <\/span><b><i>Maudie<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(titled <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maudie, el color de la vida <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Spanish). A story about love and a series of beautiful paintings by a self-taught artist that have become famous, these two threads guide the film based on the true story of a Canadian painter who is known as one of the best folk artists in Canada. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/movies-cheap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>showing<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will take place at <\/span><b>9:30 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at <\/span><b>Joan Pelegr\u00ed<\/b> <b>plaza<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as part of the scheduled events for the celebration of <\/span><b>Hostafrancs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Related article:<\/span><\/i> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/film-festivals-in-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Film festivals in Barcelona<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final screening in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/filmoteca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>film<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">series<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will take place at <\/span><b>Comas Plaza <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at <\/span><b>9:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in collaboration with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taula de Dones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Women\u2019s Table) in the <\/span><b>Les Corts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> district. The Chilean film <\/span><b><i>Rara <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">puts forward a reflective story of the dilemma faced by lesbian women at bringing their families forward into the judgement of society.
