We are finally in September, and the end of the month brings one of Barcelona\u2019s biggest festivals, La Merc\u00e8! As has become tradition, <\/span>ShBarcelona<\/b><\/a> will be talking about the events and cultural activities you\u2019ll be able to enjoy for these days in the Ciudad Condal. Make sure to pay attention so you don\u2019t miss any of the amazing things taking place over these dates (trust us, there\u2019s a lot to see). With that, let\u2019s discuss to Barcelona\u2019s most spectacular festival – welcome to La Merc\u00e8 2018!<\/span><\/p>\n

As with everything in life, it\u2019s best to start from the beginning. When it comes to <\/span>major festivals<\/b><\/a>, referred to as “fiestas mayores”, such as La Merc\u00e8 in Barcelona, everything starts off with the annual proclamation that announces the beginning of the festival, lasting from <\/span>September 21 to 24<\/b>, the latter being the grand final day of the festival. The person in charge of the proclamation this year will be actress, screenwriter and director <\/span>Leticia Dolera<\/b>, a native Barcelonesa. Leticia is a staunch supporter of gender equality, and is sure to share her sense of feminism in her message. All this will take place on September 21 at <\/span>Plaza Sant Jaume <\/b>at <\/span>6:30 p.m.<\/b> Later, at<\/span> 8:30 that same evening<\/b>, there will be a concert by <\/span>RAC 105<\/b> in <\/span>Ciutadella Park<\/b>. You\u2019ll get to enjoy the best singers and <\/span>bands<\/b><\/a> of Catalonia\u2019s music scene including <\/span>Nil Moliner, Animal, Ramon Mirabet and Buhos<\/b>. This will be an excellent time to enjoy the best Catalan music in an environment that makes for a great venue, starting off the days of <\/span>La Merc\u00e8<\/b> at full speed. These are not the only concerts taking place the night of the <\/span>September 21<\/b>, however – <\/span>La Banda Municipal de Barcelona, Balago, Maisha and Nakani Kant\u00e9<\/b> will also be playing their <\/span>music<\/b><\/a> for audiences at different locations throughout the city. <\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>September 22<\/b>, <\/span>celebrations<\/b><\/a> for La Merc\u00e8 will continue. In particular, we want to highlight a children\u2019s event put on by the company <\/span>Teatro Dom Roberto, <\/b>who will be performing a puppet show. You can find this event at Ciutadella Park on Monday, Saturday and Sunday from <\/span>noon to 7 p.m. <\/b>In the evening, the company <\/span>Avelino Chantre <\/b>will be offering a mesmerizing performance of <\/span>African dance<\/b> at the park on <\/span>Monday, Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 7:15 p.m. <\/b>The music continues into the night, with the talents of <\/span>Surma, OBC and La laia<\/b>, among others. Audiences will also be delighted with the <\/span>fire show <\/b>taking place<\/span> at <\/span>Barceloneta<\/b> beach on <\/span>Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. <\/b><\/p>\n

On <\/span>September 23<\/b>, there will be a variety of shows and concerts. We want to specifically highlight performances from <\/span>Ferran Palau, Dr. Prats, l’Orquestra Sinf\u00f2nica i Cor del Gran Teatre del Liceu, Pantanito, \u00a0The Mani-las. Celtas Cortos, Els Catarres and Maite Mart\u00edn. <\/b>Finally, on <\/span>September 24<\/b>, don\u2019t miss the singing of habaneras (an traditional style of singing popular at Catalan festivals) by <\/span>Port Bo, Big Band Jam Session, La Bien Querida and La Plata. <\/b>You can view the <\/span>full program<\/b><\/a> of concerts, shows and pyrotechnic events scheduled by date for further information.<\/span><\/p>\n
