Photo via Wikipedia<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barcelona en Com\u00fa is an entity in Barcelona that can be described as many things &#8211; initially called Guanyem Barcelona (let\u00b4s win Barcelona), it began as a democratic <\/span><b>citizen platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2014 and carried out on a left-wing, citizen-focused agenda in the following months. 300,000 citizens signed its collectively-created manifesto, and the group began to campaign for the 2015 municipal election cycle with support from groups such as <\/span><b>Podemos, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a left-wing populist party,\u00a0<\/span><strong>Proc\u00e9s<\/strong>\u00a0<b>Constituent, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a pro-Catalan independence social movement, and<\/span><b> ICV-EUiA, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an left-wing electoral coalition made up by Initiative for Catalonia Greensand United and Alternative Lef<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The next year, the 10-month-old group had won the majority in the elections, technically catapulting it into the status of a political party. However, some members of the group emphasize the irregularity of this descriptor with Com\u00fa\u00b4s main goal: to unite a variety of citizens regarding a multitude of social issues. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/political-parties-catalonia\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click here to read more about prevalent political parties in Catalonia<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main face of the party is <\/span><b>Ada Colau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who became the first female mayor, or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alcadessa, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the city\u00b4s history in 2015. Colau has been rooted in local activism for years, especially in regards to evictions and housing problems in the city, and helped to found Barcelona en Com\u00fa on a platform of local activism and citizen advocacy. Despite the election win, there was initial hesitancy within Com\u00fa about appointing one representative of a collective citizens\u00b4 platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Com\u00fa specifies <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/barcelonaencomu.cat\/es\/principios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">four main principles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for \u00a8Winning back Barcelona\u00a8, which describes the goal of transferring power back to citizens rather than just institutions in power.
