They mostly worked in manufacturing, trading, money-lending, and cultivating vineyards and estates. However, the rabid anti-Semitism of their Catholic neighbors forced almost every Jewish family to sell their estates and depart while others converted to Catholicism in order to stay. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">During the Napoleonic Invasion, the French army captured and demolished the city, destroying everything but the churches. The people of Manresa rebuilt their town out of the rubble left behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> In 1892, <strong>Manresa<\/strong> had the honor of hosting a convention which passed the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Bases de Manresa<\/strong>, a document declaring the self-government of Catalonia which included a constitution, t<\/span>he composition of the <strong>Catalan Parliament<\/strong> which was to be democratically elected by the people, and the status of Catalan as the sole official language.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_City_of_Manresa\"><\/span>The City of Manresa<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div id=\"attachment_94863\" style=\"width: 294px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-94863\" class=\" wp-image-94863\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/purple-grapes-553462__480-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"189\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-94863\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo via Pixabay<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Today, more than 75,000 people live in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.manresa.cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>Manresa<\/strong><\/a>. Its economy currently revolves around textile manufacturing, metallurgy, and glass making. In the countryside, vineyards still function in wine production and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wine-and-cava-turism-at-penedes-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wine tourism<\/a>. Like the rest of Barcelona, the municipality prides itself on nature with its parks suitable for leisure, sports,\u00a0and environmental purposes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The S\u00e8quia<\/strong> is the most renowned park in <strong>Manresa<\/strong> and locals love to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/hike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hike<\/a> and bike along the streams and paths. The city&#8217;s town hall dates back to the 19th century and was remodeled in the 2000s. Some of its features include the crypt (built in 1578), the <strong>Chapel of the Holiest<\/strong> (built in 1657), a\u00a0bell tower (built in 1592), and artwork from the 13th to 15th century.<\/p>\n<p>The municipal museum is located within the 17th-century <strong>Church of Sant Ignasi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, there is the <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.covamanresa.cat\/en?option=com_content&amp;view=frontpage&amp;Itemid=104&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Cave of Saint Ignatius<\/a>,\u00a0<\/b>a sanctuary where its namesake is said to have locked himself inside and prayed for an entire year. A declared\u00a0Local Cultural Heritage site, it&#8217;s a Baroque\/Neo-classical style church. The cave itself is a grotto facing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/magical-montserrat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Montserrat<\/strong><\/a> that stands over the Church, Jesuit Residence, and Centre for Spirituality. Every year, pilgrims come to pray at the entrance to the cave which is a mini chapel to honor\u00a0Saint Ignatius.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Get_to_Manresa\"><\/span>How to Get to Manresa<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>To get to<strong> Manresa from Barcelona<\/strong>, you can go by train or bus for the 50 to 70-minute ride. By car, take the C-58 and C-16 north. You can also take the R5 train from L&#8217;Hospitalet Av.
