The <strong>Templars<\/strong> had their own formal bases all over Catholic Europe and throughout Spain. They served as a Spanish garrison from any possible attacks by the Moors coming from Northern Africa. As the <strong>Templars<\/strong> faded away after their leaders died and Pope Clement V ordered them to dissolve,\u00a0their own buildings were incorporated into the <strong>Palau Reial Menor.<\/strong>\u00a0Although most of it does not exist today, the statues and signs of the <strong>Templars<\/strong>\u00a0still survive in the 21st century in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Palacio_Real_Menor_of_Barcelona\"><\/span>Palacio Real Menor of Barcelona<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_92610\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92610\" class=\" wp-image-92610\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/3128599417_e737a6e518_c-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"180\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-92610\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by \u1f00\u03bb\u03ad\u03be via Visualhunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/gothic-quarter-best-tour-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Gothic Quarter<\/strong><\/a> of the city, the surviving remnants of the Palacio Real Menor of Barcelona that was built in 1134 can be seen along Ataulfo Street. Throughout its existence, the <strong>Palacio Real Menor<\/strong>\u00a0had various architecture styles, including Romanesque and Baroque. Inside, there was a square where towers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/barcelonas-most-beautiful-churches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chapels<\/a>, and gardens once existed. It was mostly demolished in the 19th century with the exception of the chapel of the <strong>Royal Palace<\/strong>, still preserved with its identifying facade. Hidden within the maze of roads, the surviving <strong>Templar<\/strong> church,\u00a0<strong>Mother of God of Victory<\/strong>, stands within the\u00a0<b>Palau Reial Major<\/b>,\u00a0another plaza worth seeing.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Templar_Gate\"><\/span>The Templar Gate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_92613\" style=\"width: 151px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92613\" class=\" wp-image-92613\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/4912235413_94ee6f4979-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"141\" height=\"188\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-92613\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by cinefilo via Visualhunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Known as <strong>Amoun Gate<\/strong>, you can find the noted <em>M<\/em>\u00a0on the doors to the chapel. Many won&#8217;t even know what that is except the experts in Spain&#8217;s <strong>Templar<\/strong> history. It&#8217;s most likely connected to the <strong>Templar<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/medieval-villages-catalonia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">village<\/a> in France known as\u00a0La Couvertoirade, that has a gate specifically called the <strong>Amoun Gate<\/strong>. Its name is connected to the Crusades in Egypt in the 7th century, although\u00a0that is still debatable. For most people, the <em>M<\/em>&#8216;s on the doors are among the last physical evidence of the old <strong>Palacio<\/strong>. The stones of the Roman colony that lay inside the entire complex allow us to step out of modern Barcelona and into its medieval era.
