Palafrugell<\/strong>, a municipality in the province of Girona<\/strong>, Catalonia,<\/strong>\u00a0sits along the magical Mediterranean<\/strong> coastline of\u00a0Costa Brava<\/strong>. Historically, the region was famous for its cork production industry which served many local Catalan<\/strong> vineyards. With its three coastal towns, Palafrugell<\/strong> offers a variety of beautiful beaches<\/a><\/strong> and coves where you can bask in tranquillity. Some of these include Platja de Llafranc<\/strong> with its coral sand and turquoise clear waters,\u00a0Platja de Canadell,<\/strong> which is the largest beach at Calella de Palafrugell,\u00a0<\/strong>Port Bo<\/strong>, which is famous for the Havaneres show in July, and the Platja de Tamariu<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>which is quieter and more ideal for families. Palafrugell<\/strong> beaches are also perfect for a number of water activities such as snorkeling, diving, kayaking and boat excursions to name but a few. You can also visit the Cork Museum, or the Museu del Suro<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as it is referred to locally, centered on the history of Palafrugell\u2019s<\/strong> role in the cork manufacturing industry. Another option is the\u00a0Fundacio Josep Pla<\/strong>,\u00a0a literary heritage centre where\u00a0Josep Pla, a renowned writer, donated his literary works.<\/p>\n

Natural sights in Parafrugell don’t stop the marvelous beaches<\/strong> – the Cap Roig Botanical Gardens<\/strong>, considered to be one of the best botanical gardens<\/a><\/strong> along the Mediterranean<\/strong>,\u00a0are also breathtaking. Originally a private home, the Cap Roig<\/strong> is home to a castle and a garden with over 1,000 botanical species located by the sea in Calella de Parafrugell<\/strong>.\u00a0The garden is known for hosting the annual Cap Roig music festival<\/strong><\/span>, a series of outdoor summer concerts. Lastly, we recommend seeing the Sant Sebasti\u00e0 de la Guarda<\/strong> monument, one of the oldest sites in Palafrugell<\/strong>. It’s an ideal destination for architecture<\/a><\/strong> buffs as it consists of an Iberian archeological site, a watchtower, and a lighthouse from which the beautiful views of the coast can be seen. This monument is located at\u00a0Carrer de l’Uruguai, 87.<\/p>\n

If you plan to visit\u00a0Palafrugell<\/strong>, there are a few different ways to get there. It’s\u00a0about 135 kilometers from Barcelona<\/strong> by car. Palafrugell<\/strong> is also only an hour away from the Girona International Airport<\/strong>, where there are several buses all day long that connect from the airport to Palafrugell. You can also get there by train from the Sants Railway Station<\/a> <\/strong>in Barcelona<\/strong>. Take the train to Portbou<\/strong> and get off at Flaca<\/strong>, which is about 25 kilometers away from Palafrugell. There are several connecting buses from this train station. There are also\u00a0discounts and special offers<\/strong><\/a> for trips to nearby areas of the Costa Brava and Girona that you may want to check out.<\/p>\n
