On this three-quarter-mile road, this\u00a018th-century structure is now the site of the\u00a0<strong>Barcelona City Council Culture Institute\u00a0<\/strong>and information center. Returning from his tenure there in 1778, Junyent lived there with his wife until his death. The building changed owners and remained a private residence until 1944 when the city bought it and converted the building into a multi-use area until the 1980s when the city&#8217;s <strong>cultural<\/strong> department was established. A gem of the city&#8217;s surviving baroque era, the house features a fa\u00e7ade with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/fundacio-antoni-tapies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sculpted<\/a> pilasters and a huge balustrade that lines the staircase leading into the building&#8217;s interiorized courtyard. The Palace is a three-story <strong>building<\/strong> with countless rooms on each floor. It now houses various exhibitions on art, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/panoramic-photo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">photography<\/a>, and literature, and it&#8217;s also available to rent out for meetings and classes.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Home_For_Culture\"><\/span>A Home For Culture<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_90948\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90948\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-90948\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/650718315_b07e018436_o-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-90948\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Francisco (PortoPortugal) via Visualhunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Culture Institute<\/strong> was established in 1996 and took up shop at\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ajuntament.barcelona.cat\/lavirreina\/ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Virreina<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>Its purpose is\u00a0to build on the city&#8217;s reputation for preserving surviving structures with modernized infrastructure. The <strong>Institute<\/strong> has an extensive resume of different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/portrait-artist-fundacio-joan-miro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exhibitions<\/a> and continues to promote\u00a0<strong>cultural<\/strong> projects in the city. Currently, they are showing Patrick Faigenbaum and Joan Roca&#8217;s <em>Barcelona, Bes\u00f2s View\u00a0<\/em>photography gallery and Yves B\u00e9lorgey&#8217;s gallery on a French street&#8217;s singular standing of old ruins in a modern world.\u00a0It has joined a list of other centers specializing in exhibiting such <strong>culture<\/strong>, but its location gives it a unique meaning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Related Article:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/museums-barcelona-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edgiest museums in Barcelona<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This palace is just one on a long list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/catalonias-history-museum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">historical sights<\/a> that Barcelona has for everyone to visit. The\u00a0<strong>Palau de la Virreina\u00a0<\/strong>is among the list of Baroque residences across Europe that survive to this day and open to the public.
