These locations are home to\u00a0the <strong>Gala-Dal\u00ed Castle <\/strong>of<strong> P\u00fabol<\/strong>,\u00a0the <strong>House-Museum<\/strong> in<strong> Portlligat<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Dal\u00ed Theatre-Museum<\/strong>\u00a0in <strong>Figueres <\/strong>which allow art enthusiasts and curious\u00a0minds to explore the life and work of the\u00a0internationally renowned artist, <strong>Salvador Dal\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Salvador_Dali\"><\/span>Salvador Dal<strong>\u00ed<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Born in 1904 in\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/figueres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Figueres<\/a>, Salvador Dal\u00ed i Dom\u00e8nech&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0artistic talent was obvious from a young age. In 1919, he had his first public exhibition at the Municipal Theatre of <strong>Figueres. <\/strong>He later joined the\u00a0Spanish capital\u2019s <em>Art Academy <\/em>in <strong>Madrid<\/strong> where the controversy surrounding his character became\u00a0observable. The <strong>museum<\/strong> is\u00a0considered to be one of <strong>Dal\u00ed&#8217;s<\/strong> greatest installations, having designed it himself. He\u00a0created specific\u00a0pieces for the <strong>Theatre-Museum<\/strong>, such as the <strong>Mae West room<\/strong>, the <strong>Palace of the Wind room<\/strong>, <strong>Monument to Francesc Pujols<\/strong> and <strong>Rainy Cadillac. <\/strong>The building is painted in a bold shade of red and has massive eggs on top of it. This exterior\u00a0design alone\u00a0is telling of\u00a0the unique and mind-blowing experience that comes with visiting the\u00a0<strong>theatre-museum.<\/strong> The <strong>museum<\/strong> exhibits a wide spectrum of <strong>Dal\u00ed&#8217;s<\/strong> work with about\u00a01,500 pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings, installations, holograms, stereoscopes and photography, all recounting his artistic journey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Theatre-Museum<\/strong> also features works by other artists such as El Greco, Mari\u00e0 Fortuny, Modest Urgell, Ernest Meissonier, Marcel Duchamp, Wolf Vostell, Antoni Pitxot and Evarist Vall\u00e8s, among others. Dal\u00ed<\/strong> bought this former castle, which was initially in ruins,\u00a0in the late 1960\u2019s as a\u00a0gift to his\u00a0wife: Gala. He\u00a0restored the\u00a0castle and transformed into a safe place for her to rest. Interestingly, the couple did not live here together at the same time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The castle was opened to the public in 1996. On display at the <strong>museum,<\/strong> there are several of\u00a0<strong>Dal\u00ed paintings and drawings<\/strong>, a collection of haute-couture dresses worn by Gala, and the famous sculpture of the <strong>long-legged elephant<\/strong>. The house was restored from seven fisherman huts, renovated and enlarged into\u00a0a rather unique property.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>house-museum <\/strong>has an\u00a0interesting lobby where visitors are greeted at the entrance\u00a0by a stuffed polar bear\u00a0carrying a lamp. There are three different areas open for viewing:\u00a0the part in which the private lives of the couple took place, the study with lots of objects connected with <strong>Dal\u00ed&#8217;s<\/strong> artistic activity; and the outdoor areas, specially designed for public life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Salvador Dali House-museum<\/strong> was opened to the public in 1997.
