Back in medieval Barcelona, guilds were created for workers of different trades, and normally they had a house as their headquarters. While the <strong>silk guild<\/strong> was around back then, they didn&#8217;t have their own house until the creation of <strong>Casa de la Seda<\/strong> in the 18th century. Located right on the corner of Via Laietana<strong>, Casa de la Seda<\/strong>\u00a0can be found right next to another <strong>architectural masterpiece<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palaumusica.cat\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>Palau de la Musica Catalana<\/strong><\/a>. However, the two buildings are quite distinct. <strong>Casa de la Seda<\/strong>\u00a0is Baroque in style, featuring <em>sgraffito<\/em> decorations on the outer facade. From the outside, you can notice the beautiful etchings on the walls. On the inside of the house, you will be delighted to find that the walls are lined with actual <strong>silk<\/strong>, to pay tribute to <strong>Casa de la Seda<\/strong>&#8216;s beginnings. Take in the intricate carvings and woodwork as well, in addition to the luxurious furniture and decoration. There are guided <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/bamboo-bike-tours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tours<\/a> every Saturday which cost\u00a0\u20ac10 (student discounts are available). The <strong>tours<\/strong> are given in English and Catalan depending on the time and are given in small groups. You can also arrange to have a private group tour as well.You will have a guide explain the history of the house to you and show you all of the important features, in a tour that lasts about 45 minutes. You will see the library which features documents from the 16th century as well as the guild room and the presidential office.
