One of the most important movements in <strong>Catalan architecture<\/strong> especially is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/museu-del-modernismo-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Modernism<\/a>, which includes many of the famous landmarks that come to mind when you think of Barcelona. Antoni Gaud\u00ed\u00a0is the most well-known <strong>architect<\/strong> from Barcelona, but his colleague,\u00a0<strong>Josep Maria Jujol<\/strong>, helped him to design and create many <strong>works<\/strong> across the city. Later on, he began to study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/architecture-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">architecture<\/a> and that is when he met and studied with his mentor, Don Antoni. Don Antoni influenced <strong>Jujol<\/strong>&#8216;s work and helped him find his way as an artist. At this time, <strong>Modernism<\/strong> was developing and becoming an important part of Barcelona&#8217;s identity, and <strong>Jujol<\/strong>\u00a0began several projects in this time that demonstrated his talent and eye for unique artistry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Related article: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/josep-antoni-coder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josep Antoni Coderch, an important Catalan architect<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Influence_and_works_with_Gaudi\"><\/span>Influence and works with Gaud\u00ec<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Jujol and Gaud\u00ed<\/strong> met through a mutual friend and collaborated on many projects throughout the years. Many of the works that we associate with Gaud\u00ed are actually the result of a collaboration between these <strong>Modernist architects<\/strong>. Their first project together was the famous <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casabatllo.es\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casa Batll\u00f3<\/a><\/strong>, one of the most recognizable buildings in Barcelona. The two worked well together and continued working on other projects that are now symbols of the city like <strong>Casa Mil\u00e0<\/strong> and <strong>Parc G\u00fcell<\/strong>. <strong>Jujol<\/strong> created the famous <strong>mosaic<\/strong> benches in the park that are a favorite stop for tourists to enjoy the view and maybe take a photo or two. In Barcelona, we can see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/casa-planells\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Casa Planells<\/strong><\/a>, a vision of <strong>Jujol<\/strong>&#8216;s own design and creativity. This house features many of the aspects of <strong>Modernism<\/strong> that we know today but is distinct from the projects he worked on with Gaud\u00ed.\u00a0<strong>Jujol<\/strong> also created and worked on many buildings in his birth city of Tarragona, creating theaters, churches, and large houses commissioned by various owners and benefactors. <strong>Josep Maria Jujol<\/strong>\u00a0designed\u00a0the sanctuary of <strong>Monserrat<\/strong>, a very important symbol in Catalonia. The Virgin of Montserrat is important to the <strong>Catalan<\/strong> people and <strong>Catalan<\/strong>\u00a0history, so this project is significant. Without <strong>Jujol<\/strong> and his vision, Barcelona would look very different today.
