This section, which is situated between Arag\u00f3 and Consell de Cent streets, encompasses five buildings, some of which have become some of the most recognized\u00a0<strong>modernist works<\/strong> in the city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the late 1980s, <strong>Eixample<\/strong> was going through many changes and when the laws that restricted the decorative elements in the buildings&#8217; facades disappeared, new and gorgeous elements started emerging. Knowing their work would be on display right next to its rivals, each <strong>architect<\/strong> did their best to create<strong> the most impressive facade<\/strong>. The results both surprised and shocked the public, with the newspapers of mocking the rivalry by dubbing the block &#8220;<strong>manzana de la discordia<\/strong>&#8220;. \u00a0The name playfully refers to a tale from Greek mythology in which the goddess\u00a0Eris (the goddess of discord) upon not being invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, decides to cause trouble. She sneaks a golden apple into the pile of wedding gifts but places no name on it, only the words &#8220;the most beautiful&#8221;, causing each of the other goddesses to claim the apple as their own. With its beautiful use of ornaments, sculptures, ceramics, wood, marble, stain-glass, and mosaics, <strong>Casa Lle\u00f3 I Morera<\/strong> became one of the most valued pieces of <strong>Spanish architecture<\/strong>, a treasured example of <strong>Catalan Modernism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_86093\" style=\"width: 245px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86093\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-86093\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Warl0rdPT-via-Visualhunt-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-86093\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Warl0rdPT via Visualhunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/casa-amatller\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casa Amatller<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was originally created for chocolatier <strong>Antoni Amatller<\/strong>, designed to be a\u00a0gothic urban palace. Much like\u00a0<strong>Domen\u00e8ch i Montaner, Josep Puig i Cadafalch<\/strong>\u00a0hired skilled sculptors to help bring his vision to life. This stunning <strong>modernist house<\/strong> was the first of the three to be refurbished and it was declared <strong>Bien de Inter\u00e9s Cultural<\/strong> in 1976.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/casa-batllo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Casa Batll\u00f3<\/strong><\/a> is undoubtedly the most famous of the three buildings designed by the competing <strong>architects.<\/strong> Known by some as &#8220;the house of bones&#8221;,\u00a0<strong>Casa Batll\u00f3<\/strong> was, like most of the works by the <strong>architect,<\/strong> inspired by elements in nature.
