Barcelona<\/strong> is a city that has always been rich in\u00a0culture<\/strong>. One of the most splendid moments was between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, in which modernism<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0reigned and gave new air and colour to the city’s streets. <\/span>Today, many locals<\/a> live with modernism<\/strong> in their facades, floors, ventilation systems, lights, decor; and they don’t even realize it. There are so many hidden gems<\/strong> in Barcelona, <\/span>discovering it from another perspective is fantastic! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Els 4 Gats<\/a><\/h2>\n

This is one of Barcelona’s more historical literary caf\u00e9s<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/strong>. The origins of Els 4 Gats<\/strong>\u00a0goes back to the late nineteenth century in Paris. <\/span>Pere Romeu, a Catalan who worked in a\u00a0cabaret<\/a> bar in the French capital, wanted to bring that concept back to Barcelona. <\/span>And in 1897, thanks to the economic collaboration of Santiago Rusi\u00f1ol and Ram\u00f3n Casas, Els 4 Gats<\/strong> opened in a modernist building<\/strong> on Carrer Montsi\u00f3<\/a>. <\/span>All intellectuals <\/strong>of the time let themselves be seduced by the place where “food of the spirit” was served. <\/span>Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/a>, Enric Granados, Llu\u00eds Millet, and Isaac Alb\u00e9niz were regular clientele. <\/span>Picasso<\/strong>, little more than 17 years old, made his first exhibition there.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Els 4Gats<\/strong>\u00a0was always considered a very special place<\/strong>, however, a bit pricey. <\/span>In June 1903 it closed its doors, to the surprise of many locals. <\/span>But the spirit still remained, the building becoming the headquarters of the artistic circle of Sant Llu\u00e7<\/strong>, until civil war broke out in 1936. In the late 70’s three businesspeople in the world of gastronomy gathered to discuss the possibility of reopening it. <\/span>Finally, in 1989, it was taken over by Josep Maria Ferrer,\u00a0 and after a renovation, he began managing a restaurant and Mart\u00ed House, where it was located.<\/span>

Today Els 4Gats<\/strong> is once again very popular<\/strong>. <\/span>It’s a premise\u00a0which has earned its place in history, and it will be treasured for many years to come. <\/span>Curious tourists<\/strong><\/a> from around the world are seduced by the bohemian atmosphere<\/strong> that forever sits within its walls. <\/span>In addition to a historical experience<\/strong>, the cuisine is also wonderful. They serve s<\/span>imple, yet extremely delicious dishes<\/strong>; <\/span>typical Catalan breakfasts<\/strong>, and a wider menu of cheeses, seafood, and meats.<\/span> It’s well worth a visit\u00a0and will make you see Barcelona<\/strong> from another point of view.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
