This lake was the site of the rowing competitions back in the 1992 summer Olympics and is popular with enthusiasts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/water-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">water sports<\/a> to this day. Here you can take out a<strong> kayak<\/strong> or a <strong>canoe<\/strong> for a spin to explore the lake and get an up-close look. This lake is popular with open-water swimmers in the summertime and those looking to escape the heat for a bit. You can take a walk through the routes around the lake to get a view with a drier perspective. <strong>Estany de Banyoles<\/strong> is quite large and reaches a depth of almost 50 feet. This park is located in the Pyrenees mountains and it has more than 200 lakes, including the lake that is the namesake of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/parks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">park<\/a>, <strong>Estany de Sant Maurici<\/strong>. This park covers about 40 square miles and includes a number of paths for hiking, trekking, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/bike-barceloneta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biking<\/a>. The two rivers that are found within the park are the Riu Escrita and the Riu de Sant Nicolau, which branch off into a number of smaller streams. The mountains and bodies of water within the park were made by glaciers, so here you can find many interesting rock formations. This park is great for hiking but it can be a bit chilly due to its high elevation. This lake dates all the way back to the 13th century when it was created to help irrigate the surrounding farmland. Today, this lake is the site of many <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catalunya.com\/open-water-swim-on-puigcerda-lake-1-1-14083\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">open-water swimming<\/a> competitions and events. In addition to <strong>swimming,<\/strong> you can enjoy other fun activities like <strong>fishing<\/strong> and <strong>boating<\/strong> on the lake. You can go on a <strong>boat tour<\/strong> to learn more about the lake and the surrounding town.
