Before becoming a district of Barcelona in 1897,\u00a0 <b>Gr\u00e0cia <\/b>was a village in the suburbs of Barcelona.<strong> Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia<\/strong>, which was then called The road of J\u00e9sus, linked <strong>Gr\u00e0cia<\/strong> to the gates of the then fortified Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today&#8217;s layout of the city is owed to the architect <strong>Cerd\u00e0,<\/strong> who led the extension of Barcelona under the name &#8220;Plan Cerd\u00e0&#8221;. At number 43 and number 92, you will find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casabatllo.es\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Casa Batll\u00f3<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/casa-mila\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>La Pedrera<\/b><\/a> respectively. Completed at the beginning of the 20th century, these two buildings are symbols of this street and are not to be missed. A wonderful example of architecture, they also provide an insight into Barcelona\u2019s elite of the time, as both were private commissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A building that is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/barcelonas-modernist-route\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Modernist<\/a> in the traditional sense of the word is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Casa_Amatller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><b>Casa Amatller<\/b><\/a>.
