So from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>ShBarcelona<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0we suggest you visit the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Poblenou_Cemetery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Poblenou Cemetery<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, one of the best known of the city, by day or by night following one of these routes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/foto_5_pn.jpg\"><img class=\"alignright  wp-image-7840\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/foto_5_pn-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"foto_5_pn\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Daytime routes<\/strong> can be made throughout the year and include a tour of the Barcelona-nineteenth century through the various pantheons where\u00a0celebrities are buried. This route is short, but very useful to\u00a0quickly evoke 100 years of history, from 1775 (when the Climent bishop blessed the new funerary facilities) until 1888, when the Universal Expo\u00a0was held. 29 pantheons properly marked are visited along the route.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/DSCN69661.jpg\"><img class=\"alignleft  wp-image-7838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/DSCN69661-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN69661\" width=\"216\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a>The <strong>night tour<\/strong> is done only once a year, on the Day of All Saints, on the 1st of November, and goes\u00a0through various costumed characters who tell the audience the history and culture of this cemetry, always linked to the city of Barcelona. This activity is free but you must book to attend calling to\u00a0+34 93 484 19 99.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>A bit of\u00a0history&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This cemetery was originally thought as a solution to the problems of unhealthy due to crowding of the population within the walled city. It was <strong>opened in 1775<\/strong> by the bishop Josep Climent i Avinent near the Mar Bella Beach, is currently located in the Taulat Street number 2. The premises were destroyed by Napoleon&#8217;s troops and in <strong>1813 Antonio Ginesi<\/strong>, an Italian architect, built the new enclosure with neoclassical forms and egalitarian space burials, which reflects the aesthetic tastes and political aspirations of the wealthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/foto_8_pn.jpg\"><img class=\"alignright  wp-image-7839\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/foto_8_pn-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"foto_8_pn\" width=\"264\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>merchants and manufacturers in Barcelona at that time. Years later, in <strong>1821<\/strong>, the cemetery was completely filled due to the cholera epidemic that caused thousands of deaths. In <strong>1849<\/strong> came the most important Poblenou Cemetery remodelling when Joan Nolla built the enclosure of the pantheons, where the works of renowned sculptors and architects of the time is shown.
