Barcelona<\/strong> is a city well-known for its culture<\/strong>. A big part of that culture is its long relationship with literature<\/strong>. With its roots in medieval times, it has a long publishing history<\/strong>\u00a0and it has also been the setting for many famous novels<\/strong><\/a>, like The Shadow of the Wind<\/em> by Carlos Ruiz Zaf\u00f3n and The Cathedral of the Sea<\/em> by Ildefonso Falcones. In December of 2015, Barcelona became the seventeenth\u00a0UNESCO<\/a> City of Literature.<\/p>\n

There have been many authors, such as\u00a0Terenci Moix<\/a>, Maruja Torres<\/a>, and Manuel V\u00e1zquez Montalb\u00e1n<\/a>, who have grown and developed in Barcelona, many in the El Raval<\/a> area in particular. The neighborhood, which borders La Rambla<\/a> in the Ciutat Vella district, was once infamous for its cabarets<\/strong> and nightlife<\/strong>, prostitution and crime. The neighborhood has changed significantly over the years, becoming somewhat of an attraction.<\/p>\n

There are many bookstores<\/strong> within the neighborhood where works by both local and international authors<\/strong> can be found. Here are the two main ones.<\/p>\n
