If you are new to the city or the country, it can be quite confusing\u00a0as most of the major UK and US banks don\u2019t exist here. Before we look at each of them, here are a few snippets of <strong>advice about banking in Spain<\/strong> that may be helpful if you\u2019re new to the process:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Firstly, most current <strong>accounts<\/strong> charge you for the privilege, so expect to pay some sort of monthly or quarterly fees, unless you go with an <strong>online bank.<\/strong> Secondly, almost all <strong>banks<\/strong> in Spain charge you to withdraw money from their rival\u2019s <strong>ATMs.<\/strong> So bear that in mind when you choose, as the branch\u2019s proximity to your apartment may be a factor. Despite that, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bancosantander.es\/cssa\/Satellite?pagename=BuscadorOficinas\/Page\/BOF_FrontEnd&amp;empr=Santander&amp;leng=es_ES\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"broken_link\">Santander<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>doesn&#8217;t offer an English version of their website, meaning you\u2019re stuck with the dubious workings of Google Translate unless you can make it into a branch in person.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BBVA\"><\/span>BBVA<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>BBVA <\/strong>is the second largest <strong>banking group<\/strong> in Spain, known to most football lovers as the main sponsor of La Liga. <strong>BBVA<\/strong>\u00a0is a solid bet if you\u2019re looking to find a new home for your hard earned euros. After much consolidation (including the acquisitions of Sabadell and Catalunya Caixa, both of which you\u2019ll see dotted around Barcelona as separate branches), <strong>BBVA<\/strong> has become one of the most recognizable brands in the country. If you live in central Barcelona, then there are scores of branches of <strong>La Caixa<\/strong> \u2013 a major benefit when you take into consideration the fact that most <strong>banks<\/strong> in Spain charge you to withdraw cash from the ATMs of their competitors.
