It all\u00a0began with a <strong>legal reform that allowed the\u00a0presence of pets<\/strong>\u00a0in public transport. Now, owners can go from one place to another using the subway, train, tram and rail with their\u00a0beloved dogs. It is true that there are <strong>some restrictions,<\/strong> such as <strong>the requirement of the muzzle in dogs with a certain size and curfew from September 11th to June 24th in the case of the subway<\/strong>, but this change of the rules makes life significantly easier for the owners.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dog_beach_in_Barcelona\"><\/span>Dog beach in Barcelona<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img class=\"alignleft wp-image-65889 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/dogbeach-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"dogbeach\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Continuing with the progressive measures and supporting the dog friendly trend, Barcelona\u2019s city council approved the <strong>creation of a 1200 m2 space on the Llevant beachthat may be used by dogs throughout the bathing season<\/strong>.\u00a0Good news for dogs and their owners, who will be able to share fantastic beach days together.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_measures\"><\/span>Other measures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_65895\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65895\" class=\"wp-image-65895 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/perrosolotriste-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"perrosolotriste\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-65895\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">As the ordinance remarks, we shouldn&#8217;t leave our dogs alone more than 12 hours<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The ordinance that includes this innovative measure also gives owners some <strong>guidelines about the way dogs should be treated<\/strong>. For example, the new rules indicate that<strong>\u00a0pets should not spend more than two hours a day tied down<\/strong>\u00a0(one in the case of puppies),<strong>\u00a0that animals\u00a0mustn\u2019t be left alone at home for more than 12 hours<\/strong> (three days in the case of cats) and that it is\u00a0mandatory\u00a0to take your pet to the veterinary for a check up at least once a year. The council, chaired by Ada Colau, also announced that 700 m2 will be created in Barcelona as a leash-free space. \u00a0All the districts will have at least one area with shared use slots (with some schedule restrictions) where owners can\u00a0walk with their\u00a0dogs without them having to use a leash,\u00a0except in the case of dogs of dangerous breeds.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dog_beaches_in_Barcelonas_province\"><\/span>Dog beaches in Barcelona\u2019s province<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We can proudly say that Catalonia is one of the Spanish regions with the highest number of beaches where dogs can roam free and have some fun. There are five dog friendly beaches in the province of Barcelona<strong>.<\/strong> The first one is Vallcarca Creek, located in Garraf, just a 40-minute drive from Barcelona. This small cove is made up of sand and pebbles and is enclosed by a breakwater. Next we have\u00a0two beaches located in the town of Arenys de Mar, which is located forty minutes away from Barcelona. &#8220;Musclera&#8221;, a nudist beach,is perfect for those who live according to the naturist philosophy. There is also\u00a0&#8220;Pic\u00f2rdia&#8221; which is located close to the train station, and\u00a0&#8220;Cavai\u00f2&#8221; in Canet de Mar.\u00a0Both these beaches and the ones in Arenys de Mar present some restrictions regarding the presence of dogs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The most recent beach to be declared dog friendly is Llevant beach, the first-ever dog beach in the city of Barcelona.
