With Spain&#8217;s economy continuing to stutter, many locals\u00a0want\u00a0to improve their <strong>English<\/strong> in order to increase their opportunities. Most employers\u00a0will ask for\u00a0a 50-hour combined classroom\u00a0and online TEFL as a\u00a0minimum which will set you back around \u20ac200\/250. However, many employers\u00a0will expect\u00a0more, demanding\u00a0a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL which cost around\u00a0\u20ac1500.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you don&#8217;t want to pay this sort of money for your <strong>teaching qualification<\/strong>, don&#8217;t worry too much- there are plenty of places that don&#8217;t require these more expensive qualifications and are more than happy to hire\u00a0<strong>teachers<\/strong> with a\u00a0bog standard TEFL certificate.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Where_to_work\"><\/span>Where to work<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As I mentioned before, most people will work in one of the 100&#8217;s of\u00a0<strong>language academies<\/strong>\u00a0dotted all over\u00a0the city. Most of these will advertise positions on LingoBongo, Tusclasesparticulares\u00a0and occasionally\u00a0Loquo. It&#8217;s also worth joining the &#8216;Barcelona TEFL Teachers Association&#8217; and &#8216;Teachers who Teach Kids in Barcelona&#8217; Facebook pages, which\u00a0many employers use to\u00a0advertise. Joining such groups is also very useful for keeping up to date with the <strong>teaching<\/strong> scene in Barcelona with posts of useful links and events such as\u00a0the free workshops run by Oxford Tefl Barcelona. There are also many schools and businesses which will have positions\u00a0available and these jobs are\u00a0usually posted on the same websites.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/classroom.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-64752\"><img class=\" wp-image-64752 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/classroom-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"classroom\" width=\"306\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a>Where to work really depends on what you want to <strong>teach<\/strong> and to which\u00a0age group. Most <strong>language academies<\/strong>\u00a0offer both children and adult classes with a\u00a0greater emphasis on children. In-company classes will be <strong>teaching<\/strong> adults and\u00a0will usually involve\u00a0business <strong>English<\/strong>\u00a0depending on the company, which means <strong>teaching<\/strong>\u00a0slightly more challenging vocabulary. Have a look around and <strong>teach<\/strong> different classes so\u00a0get a feel for what you like the most.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Due to the thousands of <strong>English<\/strong>\u00a0speaking expats coming to Barcelona, <strong>English teachers<\/strong> are not is short supply. As a result,\u00a0<strong>teaching<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t pay massively well,\u00a0and you will struggle to earn\u00a0more than \u20ac15-18 per hour for lessons. However, the alternative is usually to work\u00a0in one of Barcelona&#8217;s many call centres. <strong>Teaching,<\/strong> in my opinion, is a far more interesting way to earn money.
