Even if you are not that interested in building design, it is a sight not to be missed by anyone visiting\u00a0Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/eix_2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-64543\"><img class=\"size-medium wp-image-64543 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/eix_2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"eix_2\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Characterized by its fabulous large <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Art_Nouveau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Art Nouveau<\/a> (or its Spanish equivalent,\u00a0<em><strong>modernismo<\/strong>)<\/em>\u00a0era buildings and a symmetrical rectangular structure, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eixample\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Eixample<\/a><\/strong> does not have any of the narrow, dark and twisting streets otherwise so typical of Barcelona.\u00a0The hundreds of amazing early 20th century houses\u00a0were made with such detail and beauty that even after countless visits to the neighborhood, <strong>Eixample<\/strong> will still manage to take your breath away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It shows an era so different, yet so modern in the\u00a0striking details and bright colours. Looking at the extensive floral ornaments, balconies and meticulously painted entrances, you can only try to guess the amount of work hours spent on these masterpieces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But who are the people behind the uniqueness of\u00a0this &#8220;outdoor museum&#8221; made of houses? <strong>Eixample<\/strong> was built largely for the Catalan bourgeoisie during the Art Nouveau phase, and its main creators\u00a0were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ildefons_Cerd%C3%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ildefonso Cerd\u00e1<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antoni_Rovira_i_Trias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Antoni Rovira i Trias<\/a>.\u00a0The imaginative and<strong> floral\u00a0<\/strong>yet <strong>geometrical<\/strong> style makes <strong>Eixample<\/strong> different from corresponding areas in other countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The area&#8217;s\u00a0original planning took into consideration the health and well-being of the inhabitants, since the engineer Cerd\u00e1 was deeply interested in this theme. The idea was that Eixample would be a space that respects the human need for space, green areas and light,\u00a0and where sanitary issues and the flow of goods and traffic would be easy. However, the early planning did not proceed as such, and the final\u00a0plan\u00a0for Eixample was made by the architect Rovira i Trias.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/eix_3.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-64544\"><img class=\"size-medium wp-image-64544 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/eix_3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"eix_3\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>The brightest &#8211; and most peculiar &#8211; gems of the <em><strong>modernista<\/strong><\/em> style in <strong>Eixample<\/strong> are without a doubt the fascinating creations of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antoni_Gaud%C3%AD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/a>. These include Passeig\u00a0de Gr\u00e0cia&#8217;s Casa Batll\u00f3 and La Pedrera, two of the biggest tourist spots in the city. However, there is a lot more to be seen in this neighborhood, as practically all of it is worthy of closer examination. <strong>Eixample<\/strong> stretches far to the left and right of Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the left side, on the pedestrian street Carrer d&#8217;Enric Granados, you can sit in the\u00a0many cafeterias and take your time looking at\u00a0this historically and visually\u00a0priceless\u00a0neighborhood.\u00a0One tip\u00a0can be given concerning sightseeing in <strong>Eixample:<\/strong> the touristic bus.
