{"id":63917,"date":"2016-03-13T09:54:08","date_gmt":"2016-03-13T08:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/?p=63917"},"modified":"2016-11-15T20:55:38","modified_gmt":"2016-11-15T19:55:38","slug":"bar-tomas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/bar-tomas\/","title":{"rendered":"Bar Tom\u00e1s, Sarri\u00e0 &#8211; Barcelona&#8217;s Best Bravas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whatever the reason that you, among millions of others, have chosen this vibrant, sun-soaked city for your getaway destination, it would be very rude not to sample the local cuisine, and you might as well do it properly by taking the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/public-transport-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">L6 metro line from Plaza Catalu\u00f1a<\/a> up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/10-things-sarria\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sarri\u00e0<\/a><\/strong>, to pay a visit to the famous, <strong>Bar Tom\u00e1s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Sarria\u0300-copy.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-63919\"><img class=\"wp-image-63919 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Sarria\u0300-copy-300x225.png\" alt=\"Sarria\u0300 copy\" width=\"298\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a>If you\u2019ve gotten this far, I imagine that you may have already heard of this bar\u2019s famous title of boasting <strong>the best patatas bravas in Barcelona<\/strong>, and if you haven\u2019t\u2026 well you have now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Curiosity about the true nature of these fabled <strong>bravas<\/strong> drove me on my first saunter uptown, to the neighbourhood of Sarri\u00e0. Ever the skeptic, I was determined to be disappointed, but those <strong>bravas<\/strong> melt blissfully in your mouth, dripping with aioli and chili sauce. The other reasonably priced tapas they have on offer, such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/eating-out-in-barcelona-tapas\/\" target=\"_blank\">croquets, tortilla de patata (Spanish omelet) and Iberian ham<\/a><\/strong>, are not far behind their famous crowd-drawers in terms of quality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The interior is, however, underwhelming and a little dated but even this, considering the celebrity status surrounding the place, adds to its carefree attitude. I imagine if I were to say to the waiter \u201cdid you know you have the best bravas in Barcelona?\u201d his nonchalantly reply would be, \u201ca si?\u201d It\u00b4s refreshing to see places sticking to their roots, and Bar Tom\u00e1s has certainly done that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One small complaint, which shouldn\u00b4t make too much of a difference assuming you come from a culture that has dinner while the sun is still up, is that the place closes<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>at 10pm every night &#8211; I learned that the hard way!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The people and the place<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The crowd the bar attracts is refreshingly varied too, and the manageable distance from the city center is enough to filter out the worst of the tourists. Groups of teenagers, families, huddles of old men eyeing the adolescents distrustfully, they\u2019re all there, and you should be too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Bar-Toma\u0301s-inside-copy.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-63902\"><img class=\"wp-image-63902 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Bar-Toma\u0301s-inside-copy-300x201.png\" alt=\"Bar Toma\u0301s, inside copy\" width=\"312\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a>If you\u2019re strapped for time, or you\u00b4d simply prefer to continue your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/10-things-sarria\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>exploration of the neighbourhood<\/strong><\/a>, you can even get a tray of <strong>bravas<\/strong> to go or \u201cpara llevar\u201d and find a quiet spot to consume your prize.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of the discreetly hidden plazas that Sarri\u00e0 has to offer are ideal for this. They range from larger busier squares, prime territory for people watching to smaller secluded ones for simply enjoying the sunshine and the sound of parrots singing, it won\u00b4t take you long to find whichever you fancy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One thing you\u00b4ll notice about this bar and neighbourhood is the authentic feel and style.
