{"id":59988,"date":"2015-11-27T11:16:02","date_gmt":"2015-11-27T10:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/?p=59988"},"modified":"2018-07-05T12:34:09","modified_gmt":"2018-07-05T10:34:09","slug":"museum-of-ethnology-of-barcelona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/museum-of-ethnology-of-barcelona\/","title":{"rendered":"Museum of Ethnology of Barcelona"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The history of <strong>Barcelona<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Museum of Ethnology<\/strong> date back to the beginning of the twentieth century, when a group of intellectuals and academics in Catalan <strong>ethnography<\/strong> started\u00a0 feeling the need of a space where the cultural, social and economic realities of traditional societies could be interpreted and explained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Museu_Etnol\u00f2gic_de_Barcelona_Fa\u00e7ana.jpg\"><img class=\"size-medium wp-image-59990 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Museu_Etnol\u00f2gic_de_Barcelona_Fa\u00e7ana-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"museum barcelona\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Finally, during the 1940\u2019s two museums were created: the Popular Arts and Industries museum (1942) and the Ethnologic and Colonial Museum (1949). The museum\u2019s first floor, entirely dedicated to the permanent collection, is divided in six spaces, each one of them named after the large-scale object they house: The boat, The winepress, The shepherd\u2019s cabin, The loom, The blacksmith\u2019s bellows, and The herbalist\u2019s cabinet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Visitors have the opportunity of not only seeing but also handling some of the objects that are part of the permanent collection.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Visitable_Reserve_Collection\"><\/span><strong>Visitable Reserve Collection<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Visitable Reserve Collection<\/strong> features forty-six display cases containing pieces from various continents in the world. This collection is located on the spaces that surround the permanent collection, the library and the documentation center.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Temporary_exhibitions\"><\/span><strong>Temporary exhibitions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Museum of Ethnology<\/strong> has a full floor reserved for <strong>temporary exhibitions<\/strong>, like \u201cThe sacred, the profane and the festive\u201d and \u201cA land of potters\u201d. The <strong>temporary exhibitions<\/strong> floor is a space where the museum experiments with scientific and exposition methods, displaying items connected to topics that might be of interest to the visitors.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Travelling_exhibitions\"><\/span><strong>Travelling exhibitions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From time to time, the <strong>Museum of Ethnology<\/strong>, in collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/culturapopular.bcn.cat\/en\/cases-de-la-festa\/what-are-festival-activities-centres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>The Festival Activities Center<\/strong><\/a>, lends some of its pieces to other organizations and institutions who express interest in displaying them at their facilities.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Activities\"><\/span><strong>Activities<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Museum of Ethnology<\/strong> organizes a series of activities for people of all ages, like concerts, workshops and guided visits.
