But as the population began to grow, the city felt the necessity of dividing the area into two. But what differentiates the two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/expensive-neighborhoods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">neighborhoods<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For starters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.es\/maps\/place\/La+Nova+Esquerra+de+l'Eixample,+Barcelona\/@41.3828267,2.1417876,15z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x12a4a27fdee7e2fb:0x2600fae14082f072!8m2!3d41.3837327!4d2.14748\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>La<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Nova Esquerra de l\u2019Eixample<\/strong><\/a> was built more recently than L\u2019Antiga Esquerra de l\u2019Eixample. Closer to the city center, <strong>La<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Nova Esquerra de l\u2019Eixample<\/strong> used to be an area occupied by construction workers who lived in shacks and would go into the city every day to work on the infrastructures for the 1929 Universal Exposition and also, the Metro system. The name \u201cescorxador\u201d comes from the fact that the park\u2019s area used to be occupied by the municipal slaughterhouse, known as \u201cescorxador\u201d in Catalan. The <strong>park<\/strong> has a 22-meter high monument created by <strong>Joan Mir\u00f3<\/strong>, called \u201cDona I Ocell\u201d, or in English, &#8220;Woman and Bird&#8221;. Part of the Catalan Public Hospital Network (XHUP), <strong>Hospital Cl\u00ednic<\/strong> is the main public provider in the district of Eixample, and one of the most important <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/hospitals-in-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hospitals<\/a> in Spain.
