It tells a story focused on women, with the city of Barcelona as a witness and a scenario. Although the movie initiates in Madrid, the main character, Manuela (Cecilia Roth) travels to Barcelona where she meets her friend Agrado (a transsexual woman played by Antonia San Juan). In <strong>Todo sobre mi madre<\/strong> you will see some of the most\u00a0famous landmarks of the city such as <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/tickets-sagrada-familia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">La Sagrada Familia<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and the <strong>Columbus monument<\/strong>, and you will also see other not-so-typical parts of the city, like the <\/span><strong>Hospital del Mar<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><strong>Duc de Medinaceli square<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or the\u00a0<\/span><strong>Montjuic<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Cemetery<\/strong>. The movie was directed by<strong>\u00a0Woody Allen<\/strong> in 2008, and many local critics despised it for not portraying a real image of the city and its inhabitants. The characters in the film live in luxurious houses with big terraces and drive expensive cars. Another criticism was that all the <strong>landmarks of the city<\/strong> are a bit forced into the film with the excuse of sightseeing. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <strong>Sagrada Familia<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/tickets-park-guell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Park G\u00fcell<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the famous rooftop with the chimneys of <\/span><strong>La Pedrera<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the\u00a0<\/span><strong>Olimpic Port<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and the <\/span><strong>Tibidabo<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> amusement park<\/strong> are good examples of it. But there are some moments in the <strong>movie<\/strong>\u00a0in which the locations appear in a more natural way in the lives of the characters, like when Vicky receives Spanish lessons in the beautiful <\/span><strong>Sant Pau Hospital <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Complex<\/strong>, the photography lessons in the <\/span><strong>Ciutadella<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Park<\/strong> or the conversation and drinks at the modernist bar <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.4gats.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Els Quatre Gats<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"LAuberge_Espagnole\"><\/span>L\u2019Auberge Espagnole<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_89550\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89550\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-89550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Spiterman-via-Visual-hunt-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-89550\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Spiterman via Visualhunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seven years before Allen\u2019s contribution, French director<strong> C\u00e9dric Klapisch<\/strong> chose Barcelona as the setting for his story about a group of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/erasmus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Erasmus students<\/a> with Xavier, a French man finishing his degree, as the main character. He shares the flat with other <strong>international students<\/strong> and discovers the life and adventures of Barcelona. The film shows a younger and fresher side of the city, found in many bars and open spaces in <strong>Raval,<\/strong> the<strong> Gothic quarter<\/strong> and <strong>Barceloneta.<\/strong> It also portrays very typical places that have undergone changes since the film was made (especially in atmosphere) like the famous <\/span><strong>Ramblas<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or the <\/span><strong>Pla\u00e7a Reial<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Perfume_The_Story_of_a_Murderer\"><\/span>Perfume: The Story of a Murderer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_89546\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89546\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-89546\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-Polo-via-Visual-hunt-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-89546\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by David Polo via Visualhunt<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shot between Girona and Barcelona, the adaptation of this famous novel is a journey to the past, focused in the old part of town, mostly in the <strong>Gothic quarter<\/strong> and the <strong>Born area<\/strong>. You will recognize in the screen <\/span><strong>Carrer del Bisbe,<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Sant Sever<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> Street<\/strong> or the popular <\/span><strong>Sant Felip Neri <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>square<\/strong>. Other squares were used to recreate the medieval Paris, like the\u00a0<\/span><strong>Merc\u00e8<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> square<\/strong> (where the church devoted to the Merc\u00e8 virgin is located) or the <\/span><strong>Pla\u00e7a Reial<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The film follows the experiences and talks of different characters that lived and work in the area at the time of the construction of the <\/span><strong>Rambla del Raval<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Several blocks had to be demolished to create the space, and the camera sits naturally among those who appear on the screen, like the construction workers while they have random talks, or a young prostitute and her boyfriend who live in the neighborhood, while they have a conversation.
