La Ribera is part of the \u201cold city\u201d of Barcelona and this particular street was built in the 12<sup>th<\/sup> century. It used to house the wealthy merchant class of Barcelona who made a living with trade and maritime activities. Carrer Montcada has many \u201cpalazzos\u201d or huge medieval buildings that were once lived in by the merchants and are now being used for other things. For example, one of the gothic style palaces has been converted into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/museu-picasso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Museu Picasso of Barcelona<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Similarly, the <strong>Museu de Cultures del M\u00f3n<\/strong>, is housed in The Nadal and Marqu\u00e9s de Llio Palace, two gorgeous medieval Catalan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/remarkable-buildings-of-parc-de-la-ciutadella-in-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">buildings worth visiting<\/a> even if they did not carry the <strong>exhibits<\/strong> that make up the new <strong>museum<\/strong>. La Ribera and Carrer Montcada are beautiful places to explore before stopping in <strong>The Museu de Cultures del M\u00f3n<\/strong> to see the <strong>art<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With that said, the new <strong>museum<\/strong> has thousands of works of <strong>art<\/strong> from all over the globe including Africa, America and Asia. The permanent collection has over 500 pieces, which will be complemented by temporary <strong>exhibits<\/strong>. Additionally, there are more than 2,000 pieces from the Folch Foundation collection kept in the <strong>museum<\/strong> for display. The <strong>exhibits<\/strong> hope to conserve and present these cultures through <strong>art<\/strong>. For example, one of the current temporary<strong> exhibits<\/strong> \u201cWritings. Symbols, words, powers\u201d addresses the theme of writing and how it developed throughout time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>museum<\/strong> will remain free to the public until April 7<sup>th<\/sup> and then it will cost 5 Euro.
