The city is home to many fabulous examples of fascinating <strong>architecture,<\/strong> that are not only diverse and <strong>modern,<\/strong> but also a treat to look at.<\/p>\n<p York City, German <strong>architect<\/strong> Mies van der Rohe (director of the school of Bauhaus) designed the rebuild of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/mies-van-der-rohe\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pavilion Mies van Der Rohe<\/a> in 1986 \u2013 a <strong>building<\/strong> that has become synonymous with the basic principles of <strong>architectural<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/fair-modernism-terrassa\/\" target=\"_blank\">modernism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Related article:\u00a0<a \u2013 the Catalonian mountain range.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His creation is entirely environmentally sustainable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other works by Nouvel can be seen in Barcelona in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/a-walk-around-poblenou-area\/\" target=\"_blank\">park of Poblenou<\/a> and in Paris at the Arab World Institute.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The undulating and multi-coloured roof of the <strong>Santa Caterina Mercat<\/strong> is unmistakeable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The unique design is spacious and <strong>modern<\/strong> and was refurbished in 2005 thanks to Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The incredible\u00a0roof is attached to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shbarcelona.com\/blog\/en\/architecture\/\" target=\"_blank\">building <\/a>via wooden struts and is covered with ceramic tiles that form a huge mosaic best viewed from the
