In fact, current research shows that when it comes to photo-snapping popularity, Barcelona is considered one of the top three cities in the world, beaten only by Rome in second place and New York in first.

Being home to so many famous and breath-taking monuments and landmarks such as Anton Gaudi’s Parc Guell, the Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, Palau Guell, Casa Vicens and Casa Batllo, it’s not difficult to see why people find it difficult to keep their fingers off their camera triggers and are quick to upload their snaps to their blogs, Facebook accounts or just twitter themselves silly about this top European city.

Add to that the labyrinthine and atmospheric cobbled streets of the old Gothic Quarter, El Born and El Raval; the majestic mountains of Montjuic and Tibidabo; the colourful Boqueria market with its many stalls of exotic fruits, nuts, chillies and multi-coloured spices; Poble Sec’s multitude of pincho bars and their intriguing displays of pinchos, not to mention the vibrant street life that hums and buzzes around you throughout the day and night, and it’s easy to see how the city of Barcelona managed to make it into the top 3 of the list.

Plus, the undulating quality of Barcelona and it’s many hilltops, miradors and viewpoints make it a very worthwhile destination for those who are trigger happy with their cameras and can’t wait to upload their evidence to social media for the envious attention of friends and family back home.

The research uses a heatmap to demonstrate where a proliferation of photos are being taken throughout the world and therefore which cities are the most photographed on Earth. Photographs that undoubtedly find their way to Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, Pin-it and every other type of social media available.

Other cities included in the Top Ten are Paris, Istanbul, Venice, Monte Carlo, Florence, Buenos Aires and Budapest.

            Rate us!

When it comes to being photographed, Barcelona is without a doubt, one of the most photogenic cities in the world.
