Barcelona’s best vegetarian food

With the opening of Barcelona’s latest vegetarian restaurant, we celebrate what is now one of the best cities in Europe for happy herbivores.

Good for dinner

Newly sprouted in the Gotic is Green Spot – the newest addition to Barcelona’s vegetarian dining scene. The aim here is for fantastic food that will hit the spot for meat-eaters as well as vegetarians. With gourmet pizzas and quesadillas alongside Asian inspired starters, all washed down with craft beers, Green Spot sure does hit the spot.

With over 35 years experience in healthy plant-based eating, Teresa Carles knows how to cook for vegetarians. The tasty food and attractive setting of restaurant Teresa Carles in Raval makes it a cut above most of the other veggie restaurants we’ve visited. Dishes are healthy but feel indulgent and hearty classics such as vegan lasagne will satisfy even the most devoted carnivores.

Great for a quick bite with drinks

Now this may be a bold claim but we think the best patatas bravas in Barcelona are those in Cat Bar. Why such a bold claim? Well, Cat Bar is strictly vegan. But trust us, their skin-on, fried-to-perfection potatoes, served with a fiery tomato-infused vegan allioli, are hard to beat.

We love pintxos – those moreish Catalan morsels consisting of a slice of crusty bread topped with any combination of delicious flavours – but for vegetarians, most pintxos in the vast displays laid out on bars across the city are frustratingly meaty and fishy. Fear not,  Ale and Hop bar in Born has stepped up to the metaphorical plate and, every Thursday, lays on a vegetarian pintxo feast. Variety is finally here for vegetarian pintxo lovers and the pintxos at Ale and Hop are pretty tasty to boot.

With a burgeoning vegetarian restaurant scene as vibrant as the one in Barcelona, local and visiting vegetarians can indulge in delicious cuisine from all over the world alongside veggie-friendly tapas. Rejoice.
