Where to find vegetarian sushi in Barcelona

Whether you live in Barcelona or in any other city in the modern world, it’s hard to ignore the fact that veganism and vegetarianism are both growing trends. There are many reasons why one can radically change their diet and stop eating animal products. Health reasons, lifestyle reasons or even moral reasons can be the catalysts of a change that is not always easy, not only due to habit but also because there still aren’t many vegetarian and vegan options outside of one’s own apartment.

The gateway diet to vegetarianism

It is not uncommon for those who want to start a vegetarian diet to first cut meat off their diet and move into pescetarianism. Not only there are countless benefits to a diet rich in fish, but it is also a soft step away from our more carnivore nature and closer to vegetarianism. The problem is, when it is time to fully move into vegetarianism, most people have a hard time giving up their precious, delicious sushi. Luckily for them, they don’t have to anymore, as there are plenty of vegetarian sushi restaurants in Barcelona alone. You won’t be eating fish anymore, but you’ll still be eating sushi, with all its enchanting combinations and flavours.

What exactly is vegetarian sushi?

Well, we need to start by defining what is Sushi. Sushi is a way of preparing food that originated in Japan and it consists of cooked vinegared rice combined with other things like vegetables, raw seafood or even tropical fruits. Its ingredients and presentation vary a lot (ever heard of fusion sushi?), with rice being always present. It’s often served with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce.

As you can see from that description, if you take out the fish, there are still a lot of possibilities! Sushi can still be sweet or sour, sometimes both. It can still make you close your eyes and just let your senses take you on an interstellar journey like the best Sushi can. And it will be totally vegetarian.

If all of this talk about food left your mouth watering, worry not – here are some restaurants where you can find vegetarian sushi in Barcelona:
