Fundacion Joan Miró

The Fundacion Joan Miró is a center for the study and dissemination of Joan Miró’s work and contemporary art. The foundation was created by the artist himself. It started with Miró’s private collection in 1975, growing exponentially during the years.  Today you can not only find Joan Miró’s work but also other pieces of cutting-edge contemporary art.

Fundación Joan Miró is located at Parc de Montjuïc.

Picasso Museum

Picasso Museum occupies five large town houses, originally created between the thirteenth and fifteenth century. The museum’s collection is composed of 4.251 works by Pablo Picasso, including pieces from the artist’s formative years. The art pieces are displayed in the twenty-two rooms that form the museum.

Fundación Antoni Tapies

The Fundación Antoni Tapies  was created in 1984 by the artist himself, to promote the study of contemporary art.

Antoni Tàpies I Puig was a painter, sculptor and theorist of Spanish art, one of the most important artists of twentieth-century Spain. The foundation’s collection is made of works donated by the artist and his wife, such as drawings, paintings, sculptures, books and engravings.

Fundación Antoni Tàpies is located at Carrer Aragó, 255.

Teatro-Museu Dali

The Dalí Theatre-Museum was created by Salvador Dalí himself, incorporating the ruins of the old Figueres municipal theatre, which was destroyed in a fire. The museum first opened its doors in 1974, and is considered today the world’s largest surrealist object. At Dalí Theatre-Museum, visitors can discover over 1500 works which include drawings, paintings, holograms, photographs, among others.

Dalí Theatre-Museum is located at Plaça Gala i Salvador Dalí, 5, about an hour away from Barcelona.

Museu Frederic Marès

Frederic Marès was an important Spanish sculptor, creator of works like “El Entierro de Cristo”, “Monumento a Goya” and “Niño con pez”. The artist received several awards during his lifetime, like the first prize at  Concurso Nacional de Escultura (1924), Gran Cruz from Ordem Civil de Alfonso X (1951), and Creu de Sant Jordi from Generalitat de Cataluña (1982).

Frederic Marès Museum was founded in 1948 in an old palace that used to belong to one of Barcelona’s counts. Visitors can see the artists private collection, which includes some of his work and pieces of art he collected during his lifetime.
