From the 6th to the 11th of September will take place the knockout, quarterfinals and semifinals matches of the 2014 World Basketball Championship, specifically in the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. This basketball event is comparable to the World Cup in Brazil this year, as it is held every four years and as important as the Olympics. Those who are competing for the basket cup are all country teams that are part of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), 24 in total, with dozens of sponsors to harness the global attention that the event has to come under the spotlight as CaixaBank, Endesa, Iberia, San Miguel 0,0, BMW, Falcon Travel, Mutua Madrileña, Sanitas and Vodafone, among many others. From ShBarcelona we recommend following this event on TV (in Telecinco, Cuatro or Energy) or go to the games. You can buy your tickets here.
Along with Barcelona, there are other locations in Spain that from the 30th of August will be hosting the games of this championship, including Madrid, Las Palmas, Seville, Bilbao and Granada, where is estimated to be more than 470,000 visitors, basketball fans, journalists, guests and organizers, in total, with an economic return of 325 million euros, compared with 45 million that the event costs plus 66 million in infrastructure investment. FIBA president, José Luis Sáez, said that “the synergy between sport and tourism is one of the best values in an international event, everything will add to the benefit of the ‘Brand Spain’ (Marca España)”.
If you want to follow closely the games’ results you can do it in the Mediaset social networks dedicated to the event: Twitter, or Facebook.
