Have you ever felt uninspired? Unable to see the beauty in things? Is the blue sky just a blue sky? Well, don’t worry because that’s all about to change. From September 29th to October 2nd, the city of Barcelona will become the epicenter of creativity and wonder, as the ninth edition of Swab takes place at the Italian Pavillion of Fira Barcelona in Montjuïc.

An initiative of art collector Joaquin Diez-Cascón, the 2016 edition of this contemporary arts fair will be its most ambitious to date, showcasing pieces from 75 galleries from all over the world.

History and goals

Founded as an organization in 2006 but having its first event only the following year, Swab is a fair that seeks to dispel the idea of elitism often associated with contemporary art, bringing it closer to a wider audience. It also aims to facilitate the discovery of new art, artists and trends by promoting new ideas and visions. In sum, it hopes to stimulate the Spanish artistic scene as a whole, from artists to collectors, preventing it from becoming stagnant and thus guaranteeing its sustainability and growth.

What to expect

If you visit Swab, expect to find artwork that you won’t find anywhere else. The exhibition will shine the spotlight on young artists and new art collectors, with a selection that reflects emergent forward tendencies in the national artistic landscape.

Because of the common idea that art is expensive, you might feel discouraged about going to the fair, thinking that you probably won’t be able to buy anything in it – well, that’s not the case with Swab, as making art affordable is a part of its guiding philosophies. So, if you’re looking to start your own art collection, here’s a great opportunity.
