Barcelona is a city that’s effortlessly photogenic, a veritable supermodel of a city, some might say. But with so much to see and do and so much walking, it pays to do your research before you hit the streets. MNAC – Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya
Climb the steps to this spectacular building and you’ll not only see the famous Magic Fountain but also the rooftops of Barcelona spread out before you like a tapestry. Looking closely you can pick out all the big monuments, and there are even telescopes to help you. En route, you may well be lucky enough to encounter one of the street sellers who have recently started to sell selfie sticks. Go on, treat yourself! There’s a double benefit to this awesome vantage point, too. Venture inside the MNAC building and you can take even more selfies against a backdrop of amazing arches, chandeliers and painted ceilings.
Bunkers del Carmel
This is a fantastic vantage point to get yourself some selfies with Barcelona’s skyline. You really feel you’re away from the crowds up at this viewpoint, also known as the Turó de la Rovira. Built during the Spanish Civil War, the “bunkers” are lookout points designed to survey the entire city, to help the military defend Barcelona from aircraft attacks. Once the war ended, the canons were removed and the site was left to decay. However, it later became a popular “hidden” place to visit and is now a well-known hang out visited by locals on summer days. It’s a little bit of a hike, but so worth it to get a non-touristy view of Barcelona. And, of course, that all-important skyline selfie!
Tibidabo
Look up to the horizon from virtually anywhere in Barcelona and you’ll probably see the familiar shape of Tibidabo mountain, standing proudly at 512 metres above sea level. Perched on its summit is the Sagrat Cor church, a building that looks like something from Lord of the Rings when viewed from a distance. Climb Tibidabo and you’ll be rewarded with a number of excellent vantage points from which to take selfies. For example, you can take a shot of yourself from the top of the big Ferris wheel at Tibidabo’s amusement park. Or, climb to the church and get a selfie with the sacred heart of Jesus statue in the background. Mostly though, you’ll want to gaze out at the amazing view of Barcelona and the Balearic Sea beyond. This is probably the highest view you can get of the city, so enjoy it!
