Submerge yourself in Barcelona: try out scuba diving

Written by Christine

Many people have a list of things that they want to try, a list of things that may seem crazy or even a little bit scary and thrilling.  One of the things on these lists is usually scuba diving, an activity that is exciting, adventurous, and athletic.  With miles of beach and coastline, Barcelona is the perfect place to go for a dive, whether you are an experienced pro or looking to go out for the first time.  There are several dive shops and certification centers that can help you to go out and explore the underwater world.

Vanas Dive

Scuba trainingA great place to get started on your diving adventure is Vanas Dive in Barcelona, located off of the Mar Bella stretch of beachfront.  This dive shop offers certifications and licenses for all different levels from those just starting out to those that are at an advanced level.  Classes in Barcelona start at €40 including equipment and if you go farther up north to the Costa Brava a session will cost €50.  What sets this company apart from others in the Barcelona area are their excursions beyond Cataluña that are completely affordable.  Vanas Dive offers cruises with to other destinations in Spain such as Columbretes and Formentera.  The Columbretes cruise is this summer from July 29-31 and includes transport, dive guide, some meals, and group lodging coming in at a low price of only €390.  The Formentera cruise offers the same things but will take place from September 18-25 and will cost €825 since this trip is twice as long.  For those seeking to leave Spain, you can also travel with Vanas Dive to the Philippines!

Mediterranean Dive

ScubaThe only PADI-certified diving center in Mataró, Mediterranean Dive is a perfect option to get your scuba diving adventure started.  The most basic course is called Discover Scuba Diving and will introduce you to the basics and how to safely complete a dive.  This course is designed for anyone from age 10 and up to enjoy scuba diving for the first time.  They will teach you how to breathe underwater and will help you towards your first certification.  For more experienced divers there are more options for higher certifications like open water, rescue diver, and dive master.  For those looking to take a guided trip you can leave from Mataró with a guide that will take you on a boat and then down to the depths below.  A guided tour with the equipment included €45; a great deal!

4all Divers

Scuba sights4all Divers is located near the Plaça del Centre Metro stop, not far from Sants train station.  This dive shop and scuba school has everything you need to enjoy a diving excursion or to gain a certification.  Like the other diving schools mentioned, they offer various courses and certifications to make sure that you have a safe and exciting dive.  In addition, 4all Divers offers day trips in which you can discover the beauty of the underwater world of the Costa Brava.  All excursions leave from the dive shop with transfer included to the dive site.  There are trips available with a dive class included for those who aren’t certified, and there is a half-day trip for certified divers as well that includes 2 dives.  All trips are led by professionals, include transportation, all equipment, and photos and video.  For more information about prices and reservations, you can call or email the contact information listed on their website.  Whichever option you choose, you are sure to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience exploring the natural beauty of the Mediterranean.
