Recommended by the Colombo twins, owners of the fashionable Italian restaurant Xemei, Gelida is famous for its Cap-i-pota, a traditional Catalonian dish comprised of boiled veal meat and quail eggs. Although that is something you need to try at least once, there are over 40 delicious options on the menu, so multiple returns would be advisable in order to properly explore what this exquisite Barcelona restaurant has to offer. Unworried about being trendy, this is a long-established, classic place with a cosy environment. The prices are quite low compared to more modern and popular places, which makes it an excellent price-quality proposition.

La Tieta

Address: Blai, 1 (Poble-sec)

Sergio Amor, the owner and chef of Leku, selects La Tieta as his favourite restaurant in town. This is another place with fantastic traditional food made from only the freshest of ingredients. If you have trouble picking just one dish from its rich menu, let us recommend the marvelous chickpeas with prawns – we guarantee you won’t regret it. Well, unless you are allergic to seafood – in which case, we recommend you try the mushrooms with garlic and parsley instead. Whatever you pick, make sure to accompany it with one of the great wines on the list. Alone or with company, La Tieta is a great place to have lunch or dinner – we’re sure you’ll end up returning there more than once.

5 time Michelin-starred chef Paco Pérez, renowned for his creative seafood cuisine, doesn’t miss a chance to honour sushi restaurant Koy Shunka with his presence. Run by chef Hideki Matsuhisa, it presents a “very Mediterranean-Japanese cuisine” that effortlessly connects Barcelona to the Pacific Ocean. A definite must-try for any fan of sushi.
