Double-features and nostalgia at Phenomena

Written by Paula

December 16th, 2010. A movie theatre opens its doors for the first time for a night that will leave spectators on the edge of their seats. Large creatures with sharp teeth terrorize the audience in a double feature of the 70’s classics “Jaws” and “Alien”.

And so, Phenomena is born.

Describing itself as “The Ultimate Cinematic Experience”, Phenomena sets apart from regular movie theatres due to its 70s, 80s and 90s focused programming. Taking a step into the past, the theatre recovers the tradition of the double feature, in order to give spectators a taste of nostalgia.

One of the few theatres in Barcelona to show movies in original version, Phenomena has received hundreds of iconic movies such as 2001: Space Odissey (1968), Lethal Weapon (1987), Batman (1966), Ghostbusters (1984), Total Recall (1990), E.T. (1982), Chinatown (1974), The NeverEnding Story (1984), Grease (1978), A Clockwork Orange  (1971) and Birds (1963).

The theatre organizes cult-film marathons periodically, and movie cycles like “Spanish Bizare”, “Music Marathon” and “End of the World”, shown as part of the Phenomena Collections.

For the fans of the B-series genre, the theatre has created Phenomena Grindhouse.

With Phenomena Premiere viewers will discover great movies that never made it to theatres and director’s cut versions of movies they may have watched in the past.

Children will also have the opportunity to be part of “The Ultimate Cinema Experience” with Little Phenomena, sessions showing kids, families and young adult, films in Spanish.

Although it is primarily famous for the showing of classical movies, the theatre also shows new releases, from time to time.

To keep up to date with the theatre’s programming, follow Phenomena on Facebook or Twitter.

Phenomena is located at C/ Sant Antoni Maria Claret, number 186.
