Music Schools in Barcelona

Barcelona offers many music schools that teach history, theory of music and performance. Here are two that really make the grade!

Conservatori Municipal Música de Barcelona

(Carrer Bruc 110-112)

The Municipal School of Music of Barcelona was created on March 2nd, 1886, by the city of Barcelona.

Until the 2000’s, this was the only public center of Catalonia that taught top grade music lessons. The Conservatory stopped granting degree studies to provide courses only to professional musicians.

Offering classes on over twenty instruments from the accordion to violoncello, and signing, the school has open courses, workshops and master classes, along with its regular courses. The school organizes year around concerts from its students.

Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya

(Carrer Padilla, 155 – L´Auditori Building)

Another fine choice school offering Bachelors, Masters, Extension and Continuing Education courses.  Their curriculum based in Classical/Contemporary Music, Jazz/Modern Music, Early Music, Traditional Music, Pedagogy, Theory/Composition and Conducting, Musicology, Sonology and Production/Management will focus on what you are looking for.  They first opened their doors in September 2001, giving them an overall enriching education.   With a small enrollment of under 800 students (in both undergraduate and master´s), the school offers summer course as well for the general public.

Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu

(Carrer Nou de la Rambla, 88)

Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu was first established in 1837. Ten years later, Gran Teatre del Liceu was inaugurated. Courses are set up from Elementary level to Preparatory Studies, leading to their Bachelor of Music and Graduate Studies. They even have a program that specializes in Jazz and Modern Music. Three campuses are set up in Barcelona city.
