Live the Cultural Experience Of Barcelona’s Architecture

As you will discover Barcelona’s architecture is about so much more than Gaudi. Today architects from around the globe have chosen to come to this city and great some visually stunning works.

You’ll often find that though Gaudi’s influence isn’t always visible in modern architecture, the use of colour is. Plus, through him, it has allowed this new breed of architects to let their imaginations soar when designing new buildings for what is becoming a very beautiful and eclectic place to live. In fact, when designing buildings many of the architects have chosen to take huge risks through using very bright colours that would look out of place in other cities around the world.

So what makes the architecture in Barcelona so distinctive?

For some reason when it comes to this city it has been able to successfully blend the old with the new that helps to make it look simply breathtaking. Nothing could be more enjoyable than spending a few hours strolling along the streets of this city and taking in a special atmosphere that the architecture surrounding you has helped to create.

One minute you could be walking past some gothic architecture that is common in this part of Spain like the Iglesia de Pi, and then next you’ll find yourself passing the beautiful facade and arches that make up the City’s Cathedral. Of course, if you really want to live the enriching cultural experience of Barcelona’s architecture the spending time viewing the city’s Sagrada Familia Basilica is a must. This particular building towers over the city and as you wander around the outside of the building you’ll find yourself looking at different architectural styles, that all seem to merge together well.

However, the architects who created this city aren’t only known for creating wonderful builders but also for developing a good plan. One thing you may not have noticed and which is common is that all buildings located on corners of streets have flat edges (chamfered corners). As a result of this, you’ll find that at the city’s crossroads they have a much more open feel to them and this helps to provide more space for terraces to be created on the street corners. As a result of the way in which the roads are laid out it further helps to create a more sociable and communal atmosphere throughout this amazing city.

Live The Enriching Cultural Experience

You can, of course, tour the city by bus, but if you want to get a real feel for the city then participating in one of the many walking tours around its streets is highly recommended. One particular tour you may particular want to go on is that known as the Barcelona Architecture Small Group. They offer you two tours to choose from, one that takes your around the medieval parts of the city, whilst the second one allows you to explore the city’s very innovative waterfront. If you would prefer you could enjoy both as one takes place in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
