Libraries in Barcelona

If you are spending some time in Barcelona, enjoying your stay in one of the ShBarcelona’s rental apartments and you love reading, listening to music, watching movies, or you need to consult manuals, guides or encyclopedias constantly due to your studies, this article will be very helpful for you.

In Barcelona there is a network of 213 municipal libraries depending on Barcelona City Council and that are interconnected, 38 of them are within the city of Barcelona. In this directory you can find which one is better for you by proximity to your home or to your workplace. In this catalog you will find books, audio books, newspapers, movies, music CD’s, manuals, magazines and other resources by title, author, subject, or signature.

To consult all that the Barcelona’s Libraries Network offer, you must request a free user card that will identify you and allow you to resource’s lending and reservation. With the card you also can use computers with Internet connection, and have other cultural advantages (discounted tickets, specialized shops, etc.). This card doesn’t expire and all citizens can request it by going personally to the nearest library or by filling this form with your data and choosing the library where you want to collect the card. With this card you can also do some courses, participate in book clubs, workshops, exhibitions, Storytelling for children, etc. If you need to study during the exams period or to write in your laptop, in Barcelona’s libraries you’ll find the perfect calm environment to be very focused on your work. All libraries are open from 10am to 9pm.

In order to everybody can use libraries’ resources and lending books, there are some traveling Bibliobuses so people from less populated counties of Catalonia can have access to them.  They all work like a traditional library, with a virtual catalog and technology resources.

Come to one of the libraries of the municipal network, choose the resource you want to use, lend up to 30 books, CD’s or DVD’s and take themat home for 30 days, give back all materials in time to avoid being penalized and enjoy the knowledge and entertainment at your fingertips.
