According to many Yogic cultures, Kundalini is the cosmic energy that rests at the base of our spine. Those who follow this philosophy believe that this energy is coiled like a snake and can be awakened and controlled, giving whoever is able to do it an amazing understanding of life and an enormous spiritual and energetic power. Nevertheless, to achieve that state of the so-called Illumination, the seekers need to prepare their body, heart, and mind – purifying them, strengthening them and taking them to its full potential. Thus, the objective of Kundalini yoga is to awaken that energy and prepare its students for that moment, using asanas (body postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), bandhas (muscular contractions), kriyas (body cleansing), mudras (hand positions) and mantras (Sanscrit songs). These techniques will balance the energy of the human body and use it in one’s favor.

For those of you who do not seek mere physical exercise, Kundalini yoga is a good opportunity to find more than just body postures. This yoga style will shape your body, make you lose weight and reduce the stress of your daily life. On top of that, it will also raise your awareness and boost your energy. So, if you live in Eixample and are curious about Kundalini Yoga, keep reading and find out where to practice it in this part of the city.

  • I do simple yoga poses. I hope this Kundalini yoga is also easy because I am not that flexible.
