Getting internet/wifi service in Spain

It’s not exactly easy to get an internet/wifi service abroad, since the steps you have to take change from country to country. Luckily, ShBarcelona is here to guide you through the process, which can take way too much time if you don’t know what you have to do.

Are you a ShBarcelona client?

If you are a monthly rental client in ShBarcelona and your flat doesn’t have internet, don’t worry. Contact your Key Account Manager, he will request an activation of the line with a partner company. To complete your registration, you have to open a Spanish bank account, there is no need to process the NIE.
To speed up the installation, a technician can install the modem directly in your apartment: in this case the installation may costs 70 € *. Then the monthly fee will cost about 40 € per month, will be charged directly from your bank account.

*The agency will receive no fees on the installation costs.

Nevertheless, if you are renting a long term apartment, you will have to do all the procedure by yourself. Do not panic, in this article you will get all the information you need to make it easier.

Attention, operators often display the prices of their offers without what they call “Cuota mensual linea”. This refers to your line’s management costs, which sometimes doubles the prices posted by the companies.

The process of getting internet service

The internet provider company will ask you for your NIE: Foreign Identification Number. If you do not have this document, consult the procedures to get a NIE here. Once you have these documents, you simply go into the shop of the company of your choice and tell them which offer you want. They will send you a technician to install the internet line the following week.
